What's Up Wednesday--Strawberry Jam!

What's Up Wednesday is a blog hop created by Jaime and, Erin Funk, to help writers connect. ***Please remember to link to their blogs and/or use one of the WUW buttons provided.***

WHAT I'M READING

I just finished reading Killing Ruby Rose, and you can find my review here. Finding great books like that is just one of the many reasons I'm enjoying this weekly blog hop! I'm not sure what I'm going to read next, but A Thousand Splendid Suns and We Were Liars are both waiting for me at the library. Oh, who am I kidding...I'm not going to be able to resist We Were Liars. It's next.

WHAT I'M WRITING

You can see my thoughts about writing here. The only thing I really have to add to that is that I had a great idea for one of the early scenes in Pyromancy: Crash. This is a wonderful development, because I haven't had ideas for a few weeks now. Ideas are pretty important if you're a writer.

WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW

Lists. Why is it so hard for me to make one when they make me so productive? Possibly because I prefer being lazy to being productive. But on days like today, when productivity is an absolute necessity, I realize what a wonder woman I would be if I enjoyed lists more.

WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO

We got up early to go strawberry picking yesterday. We picked over 30 pounds, and my husband wants to go again tomorrow. Sigh. Then I took my kids to the ocean with some friends. We hurried home to watch the end of the USA soccer game. At the 85th minute, we had to leave for my son's soccer game, and the score was still 0-0. By the time we got to the game and asked people what the score was, it was 2-1. That was a brutal few minutes, I think. Glad I missed it. My son's team won, and then we went home and made strawberry jam. I'm hoping that by this point your jaw has dropped in amazement because I fit so much into my day yesterday, because I can hardly believe it myself, and I was there. :)

  1. Go Melanie! I love it when a challenge gets you out an doing something you love (like reading). I'm doing the 100 book challenge this year, and despite the move and book releases, it seems to be working out. Or at least, I'm on target for now. Here's hoping I don't fall behind through these two moves.

    1. You are a superwoman, Crystal! I don't know how you're managing to do it all. My daughter and I are doing a tic tac toe board of different kinds of books. It's been a lot of fun. Before school got out, I was winning, hands down, but I think she might have pulled ahead now.

  2. I love making lists! There's something satisfying about ticking off every item, even though my own lists are never-ending these days. :P

I keep hearing great things about WE WERE LIARS - I'll have to add it to the list. (Yes, another list! :P)

  3. I'm totally a list girl. Honestly, I'd never get anything done if I didn't make lists. As for books recs, you're so right about how great bloghops are for finding out about books. I've added SO many to my TBR list simply from doing WUW. Hope you have a great week, Melanie! :D Oh, and awesome about the new idea for your WiP too!

  4. I have WE WERE LIARS on hold at the library, but so far no word on when it'll be available. Darn.

As for lists, I'm a compulsive list maker. The problem is, I have so many lists piled up I get used to seeing them kicking around and I tend to ignore them lol.

I've been saying for the last few years that my family needs to go strawberry picking again, but we always end up missing the season. Picking them fresh is so much better than store bought!

Hope this new idea for you WIP leads to wonderful things!

  5. Wow, that's a lot of strawberries, all of which I am allergic to :P

I find lists really helpful when I am super busy at work, otherwise I never bother with them.

    1. Yes, and you were the inspiration for those changes, Meredith. Your comments on the first couple of chapters really got me thinking. Thanks!

  8. Yummm, strawberry picking! Are you planning on making jam? Or something equally delicious? Aw man, now I'm thinking about strawberry and blueberry pie...

I'm a listaholic too, don't worry. Although sometimes half the battle is identifying what you have to do and then working up the energy to do it ;) Have a wonderful week, Melanie!
